The Scholar-Baller
Patch
The Scholar-Baller
Patch is a visible indicator of a student-athlete's achievement in
both the classroom (a minimum 3.0 gpa) and on the playing fields, a
badge of honor and a statement of the acceptance of the Scholar-Baller
ideas. The patch is typically worn on competition-level uniforms
such as on the football jerseys of Arizona State University, Hampton
University and Morgan State University beginning with the 2004 football
season. These were the first three universities to wear an
academic recognition patch on game-day jerseys. Since then, a
few other universities have imitated the Scholar-Baller patch with
their own renditions.
These patches are made available by the
Scholar-Baller
organization to member schools for a modest fee. The
Scholar-Baller
team will work with
each school to customize the patch to reflex the team's colors.
Patches come in three different sizes to more appropriately fit the
uniform and can be produced with either the ThinkMan
or ThinkWoman
graphic. Additionally some text can be added, such as the "06"
which is sewn onto the patches pictured on the left.
The "SB Patch", as it is proudly referred
to by the team, will continue to evolve with recognition, acceptance,
specific individual or team needs, and the trends of style.
The patch has also been applied to casual wear, such as polo and dress
shirts, to attachι and duffel bags, to small custom purses, and to a
new graduation cord presently under development.
